چکیده

Huge amount of video data gets generated every day which needs to be efficiently processed and effectively presented to the users for retrieval of relevant information. The focus of this paper is primarily to explore techniques which can support IR applications on large scale video databases. Almost 25 times faster approximation of a widely used color representation is proposed by using information from the MPEG compressed domain. A scheme is presented for real time matching of videos in online video feeds. LSH based indexing is performed for handling efficient near neighbor queries and support fast clustering. A video clip can be searched in more than 100 hours of video data in few seconds. The techniques are verified on large video data with the help of a specially designed experimental setup. The proposed techniques are shown to be significantly better than several existing and state of the art algorithms.

A unified approach to content-based indexing and retrieval of digital videos from television archives

This work addresses the development of a unified approach to content-based indexing and retrieval of digital videos from television archives. The proposed approach has been designed to deal with arbitrary television genres, making it suitable for various applications. To achieve this goal, the main steps of a content-based video retrieval system are addressed in this work, namely: video segment...

Compressed Domain Scene Change Detection Based on Transform Units Distribution in High Efficiency Video Coding Standard

Scene change detection plays an important role in a number of video applications, including video indexing, searching, browsing, semantic features extraction, and, in general, pre-processing and post-processing operations. Several scene change detection methods have been proposed in different coding standards. Most of them use fixed thresholds for the similarity metrics to determine if there wa...

Discourse Cues for Broadcast News Segmentation

This paper describes the design and application of time-enhanced, finite state models of discourse cues to the automated segmentation of broadcast news. We describe our analysis of a broadcast news corpus, the design of a discourse cue based story segmentor that builds upon information extraction techniques, and finally its computational implementation and evaluation in the Broadcast News Navig...

Video Abstraction in H.264/AVC Compressed Domain

Video abstraction allows searching, browsing and evaluating videos only by accessing the useful contents. Most of the studies are using pixel domain, which requires the decoding process and needs more time and process consuming than compressed domain video abstraction. In this paper, we present a new video abstraction method in H.264/AVC compressed domain, AVAIF. The method is based on the norm...

Issues in automatic transcription of historical audio data

This work deals with some interesting issues that arose when the ITC-irst broadcast news transcription system was applied to transcribe the audio track of historical documentary films. Due to an evident acoustic and linguistic mismatch between the broadcast news and the new application domain, the initial word error rate was of 46.4%. By exploiting a limited amount of manually annotated trainin...
